True Colors Revealed

The proctor finished his long narration, and most of the Kage had their brows furrowed in either deep thought or suspicion.
“I have one question...” stated Ryoushi, “how exactly does your special ‘kekkei genkai’ work? Would you mind if we addressed you as Kaname, by the way?” Kaname sighed and rubbed the back of his head.
“Alright, I guess it’s time for the world to know who I really am,” Kaname conceded with a defeated tone. “Yes you can call me by my name, but please don’t go shouting out my clan or anything. I don’t think that Orochimaru knows I’m still alive... And I intend to keep it that way, at least until I can ambush him.” Naruto had a confused look on his face. Orochimaru?...
“Oh, you asked about my secret technique?” the proctor continued. Ryoushi nodded in response. “I’ll show you all.”
Kaname closed his eyes for a moment and opened them abruptly. Where his dark oak hazel eyes once were now sparked with grey sclera, his pupils revealing a symbol similar to two sickles, the blades facing separate directions with two circles near the points. All of the Kage’s eyes widened. Sasuke, slightly surprised, activated his sharingan. Sakura cracked her knuckles menacingly. Kakashi put his book down. Regardless, Kaname progressed.
“These eyes allow me to link my eyesight to anyone that I’ve touched within three days. With this shared link I can do nearly anything to my target’s eyesight. I also share eyesight with any clone of me. I could cure most visual problems or cause permanent blindness using a special sealing jutsu... but in the case of the latter I must be absolutely sure that I don’t mess up, otherwise I myself could be blinded.”
Kakashi, whose gaze returned to his copy of Makeout Tactics, was the first to verbally react. “So,” Kakashi stated with a half-invested tone, “That’s how those eyes work...”
“My apologies,” interjected Gaara in a polite tone, “I must return to the Hidden Sand. I have pressing matters which must be tended to.” Gaara stood up and bowed to everyone in the room as he and his escorts Kankuro and Temari exited the booth. Kaname waited until Gaara had left the room, and then cleared his throat.
“I’m afraid I’ve got to split, too” Kaname apologized. “Thank you for inviting me to this event, Kakashi. And thanks to the rest of you for allowing me to be here.” The remaining kage each bid him farewell while Naruto appeared to be deep in thought. Actually, though, he had managed to doze off. Everyone in the room gave a disappointed sigh, and Sakura quickly woke him up with a firm punch to the head.
“Idiot...” Mumbled Sasuke.
“Gah!” Naruto exclaimed. “Why’d you do that, Sakura?” She immediately began to reprimand him. Kakashi sighed and smiled.
“They never change, do they?” Said Kakashi. “You can go now, they’ll be at it for a while.” Kaname nodded and left the booth. Kozumaku was just outside waiting for him. Kaname stopped and turned to him with a slightly confused expression.
“You called?” Kaname asked with a joking tone. Kozumaku’s face remained serious.
“Now’s not the time, K,” he replied indignantly. Kaname’s eyes narrowed. Kozumaku was rarely in a mood this grievous.
“Alright, give me a report.” Kozumaku pulled out a scroll and unravelled it.
“This report came from a former C-rank mission recently completed by jounin Kurenai Yuhi and her genin squad of three. The group recently returned, and the status of the team is grave at best. Apparently while on recon, the group ran into a rogue A-class shinobi, and the results of the conflict were... devastating. Kurenai was badly injured, but that’s the least of our concerns. You see, Hitori Kuroakki, the one you told me to keep an eye on, his sister Chirui is under Kurenai’s tutelage and was struck with a kinjutsu this guy had developed. According to lead researchers at the Konoha Hospital, she’s absolutely unresponsive and immobile. Their results, combined with firsthand reports from her squad, have let us to conclude either her mind has been wiped clean, or she’s been placed in a near-permanent comatose state.” Kaname was beginning to catch on. “I’m sure that Hitori won’t respond too well to his sister’s condition. I can’t predict with certainty exactly how he’ll react, but... with his power and rage, I can’t imagine anything good.” Kaname’s eyes hung grim.
“I understand, Kozumaku,” Kaname’s tone was dark and grave. “I expect him to place blame on somebody, and that person will be in terrible danger. A likely target would be the man who performed the jutsu which caused this. Has he been captured or killed?”
“Captured. ANBU were dispatched to collect him upon the group’s return. They reported too injured to carry him back, though before going down Chirui managed to shatter his leg.”
“Good. If anyone should pay for this atrocity, it should be him. I hate to leave the rogue shinobi to such a cruel fate, but I’m afraid that if Hitori doesn't seek retribution upon him, he'll do so unto another, possibly someone innocent.” Kaname began to take steps past Kozumaku. “Tell Sana Sarutobi in the hospital to wait for orders from me. Make sure she's out of sight as well, and most importantly, let no word of this slip out... I want to be the first to deliver the news.” Kozumaku nodded in cooperation before dashing off.
Sana Sarutobi: sister of Sasuke Uchiha’s new wife, the ANBU’s leading expert in medical jutsu, and one of Kaname’s most trusted sources in the Hidden Leaf. Sana’s mother and grandmother had achieved fame in Konoha for protecting the village from an attempt to poison the water supply, counteracting the toxin with a mix of water and medical jutsu before it could leave the primary source. Sana had been taught the same techniques from her predecessors and quickly arose to high stature in the medical community. She now worked at the Konoha Hospital as a Lead Medic, as well as a special ops medical ANBU agent.
“Earth Clone Jutsu,” mumbled Kaname once he stepped out into the streets. Two blobs of mud rose from the ground and reshaped themselves into exact clones of him. “If he decides to take out his initial rage on me, I can’t allow myself to be engaged in an open fight.” He sighed with dismay. “Something tragic’s gonna happen today... I can feel it...”

The Kuroakki dwelling reeked of alcohol, smoke, and the lingering odor of resentment in the air. Hitori was at home and livid with rage, his house in terrible condition. Afterall, he usually made Akusuri do all of the cleaning, and with him gone, the place was left in shambles. Hitori, downing another bottle of hard sake, mumbled to himself in anger.
“Damn those Kage... Damn that proctor...” he mumbled as his words transformed into croaked shouts. “And damn YOU Akusuri! You good-for-nothing, traitorous, conniving son of a bitch!” Hitori threw his bottle into the opposite wall and growled, shakily picking himself up. “How am I going to break this to Chirui...?” His next thought was interrupted by a swift knock on the door. He fumbled carving his path to the entryway through the litter and mess, and opened it with a “Whaddya wa-”, interrupted only by the cutting silence of his visitor. He was both surprised and enraged to see Kaname standing cockily at his door, a scroll gripped in hand. Hitori snorted with derision.
“You’ve got some nerve,” he threatened, accompanied by a fist trembling with anticipation. “You better’ve come here for something other than gloating, ‘cause I’d be more than happy to kick your ass right about now...” Kaname sighed underneath the scarf which concealed his mouth.
“As if I’d have any trouble beating a sore, drunken loser like you,” he retorted. Hitori’s fists tightened further, one snappy comment away from meeting Kaname’s face. “Anyway, that’s not why I’m here...” he stated while offering the scroll to the self-pitied Kuroakki. Hitori snatched it out of his hand. “... sorry for your loss,” mumbled Kaname with a somber tone as he ambled down the street away from the dwelling. Hitori passively flipped him off before opening the scroll, which read as such:

Hitori Kuroakki,

I regret to inform you that your younger sister Chirui, while on a mission with her squad, was struck with a prototype kinjutsu. So far, all I’ve been able to tell is while this jutsu has caused her no physical harm, she is ultimately unresponsive to any and all communication and completely paralyzed. We currently have no cure for her condition, however several of our best medical jounin are looking into a solution. I am aware this is a sorrowful time for you, and I send the deepest condolences from all of us at the Konoha Hospital. Chirui prevented a rogue ninja from escaping and giving away crucial information to Orochimaru. She fought honorably for this village and will be honored accordingly. Be proud of your sister. The village will know of the sacrifice that she made, and your clan’s reputation will no doubt flourish.

With kindest regards,
Sana Sarutobi
Lead Medic of Konoha Hospital

Hitori simply stood there, desperately trying to process what he had just read. His whole body began to quiver with fear and sadness as he stumbled back into his house. “Chi... Ch-Chirui... no...” The grief struck him slowly like a kunai sliding between his ribs and through his heart. His little sister, the only of his family in whom he had actually ever placed any love, had suddenly been ripped from his grasp. His only rope to the light had been severed, and now the demon was left to rot in the darkness alone.
The scroll began to burn in his hands as he gripped it in a clenched fist. “NO!” he screamed in a panic of disbelief. “She’s not gone! She can’t be!” Letting out his rage in a fit of violence, Hitori started to tear the entire room to shreds. “NO!!!” He slung his head over the sink and closed his eyes as they leaked tears. “Chirui... why Chirui?...” When his eyes reopened in a haze, they glared with the icy cold glow of his kekkei genkai. “I’ll kill them...” The entire room began to heat up, and flammable items spontaneously erupted in flames. “I’ll kill them all...!” This intense rage boiled within him as he quickly simmered... until he could no longer withhold it. “CHIRUI!!!!!
In an apocalyptic explosion of cyan flame, the entire building instantly engulfed in the wild heat of Hitori’s anger, now fueled by the lust to avenge his dear sister. As he stepped from the sea of fire, his eyes remained dead set on his goal.
Kurenai Yuhi... I’ll kill you! How dare you let this happen to my sister...!” growled the distorted voice of Hitori Kuroakki.

The bystanders walking the streets of Konoha screamed in terror and ran in attempt at escape from the collateral when Hitori’s small flat exploded. A look of dreadful delight was strewn across his face. The man was delirious with rage and sorrow, consumed by the demon he so readily embraced. The only thing left on his mind was the joyful thought of how he would end Kurenai Yuhi’s life. As he began his trek toward the hospital, the earth clone which had delivered the bad news peered out from behind an alleyway and sank back into a pile of mud.
Everything the clone had witnessed was transferred to its creator upon its return. The real Kaname was waiting patiently for Hitori’s reaction standing atop the Hokage monument.
“What incredible rage...” mumbled Kaname. “Why does such a demonic power still exist? I'm afraid that in that in his current state, conventional shinobi won’t be enough to contain him. Although by now Kozumaku must have alerted the Konoha forces to work rescue only. Right...?” He snarled and shook his head. “I doubt it.” He took a sigh of pained annoyance at the situation and a pause before a glaring realization made itself evident in his mind. “Wait...” His eyes fly open in shock and horror. “Once he gets revenge, there’s no telling what he could do afterward!” He swiftly abandoned his position and started dashing toward the Hokage’s Office while one of his clones he sent ahead to the prison to ensure the staff was prepared to lock Hitori away upon achieving his revenge.
Meanwhile, Hitori had begun to to make his way to the hospital where he knew he would find not only his sister, but the woman he placed every ounce of blame on: Kurenai Yuhi. However, his pace had slowed to a brisk stride, nonchalantly strolling down the street as blue flames encircled him, setting ablaze any person or structure unlucky enough to come within range of the circle’s wild flares. These demonic flames lashed out at clamouring civilians as he walked by. The ANBU were quickly dispatched to detain him, but not even the highly-trained operatives could escape the smoldering inferno that was surrounding him. Taijutsu was a hopeless effort, as many operatives who had attempted it lay burnt and dead in his path of desolation. Water-users desperately crashed him with wave after wave of jutsu, though none could extinguish the raging fire which protected its master like a shield. It was like amaterasu.
While casually laying waste to numerous agents, leaving each as another black number on the floor, he was strangely humming a cheerful melody, but with his corrupted voice coupled by the screams of agony, the tune only sounded twisted and dark. His voice was one which could send you to hell and back, if he so pleased it. As he turned a corner and the hospital came into view, he ceased his warped chime and began his approach toward the crowded square blocking the entrance. People cried and screamed while he paved mercilessly through body after body to reach his target. Hitori growled lowly before causing an explosion to annihilate the entryway in front of him. He stepped in over debris and glared at the receptionist that lay trembling on the floor.
Tell me where Kurenai Yuhi is... NOW!” he demanded harshly. She pointed at a door at the end of the hallway and fled out the former entryway the second his back was turned, in fear of the demonic Kuroakki. Down the halls he strode, though this was no casual walk as before. No. Now he was focused, dead set on his mission to kill the woman whom he had trusted with his sister’s life, to achieve vengeance for Chirui’s needless sacrifice. He didn’t care about the consequences, that he would now surely be pinned as a traitor and a deadly force. He didn’t care. He lusted for revenge, soon reaching the end of the hallway where lay the door to Chirui’s room. With one hand he tore the door off of its hinges and stepped in to discover, to his great content and resentment, Kurenai Yuhi sitting at his little sister’s bedside.
The news eventually had to reach the family of the afflicted, and unfortunately for the Hidden Leaf a good portion of that family is not only mentally unstable, but unimaginably powerful, as well. Just how will Hitori react to the news? Who will he blame for the loss of his only remaining loved one?
